Getting Started with Vortex

Welcome to Vortex — the enterprise data platform by Eternal Compute for connecting, managing, and transforming data across mainframe and cloud environments.

What is Vortex?

Vortex provides a unified interface to:

• Connect to z/OS mainframes, cloud storage (S3), relational databases, and NoSQL stores
• Manage data with full schema discovery, staging, and scheduling
• Script & query datasets using the built-in Data Scripts editor
• Explore backups and transfer data to mainframe in EBCDIC format
• Orchestrate reports with scheduling, visualizations, and sharing
• AI-powered assistance across all workspace functions

Quick Start

1. Set Up a Connection

Navigate to Connections in the sidebar and select a connection type:

Type	Examples
Mainframe	z/OS LPAR via TSO (TN3270)
Cloud Storage	AWS S3, Azure Blob
Relational	PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle
NoSQL	MongoDB, DynamoDB

2. Add a Data Source

Go to Data → Sources and click Add Source. Vortex will auto-discover schemas and let you configure staging and schedules.

3. Use the Workspace

Open Workspace to access:

• Data Scripts — Write and run SQL queries against your datasets
• Backup Explorer — Browse backup snapshots and extract data
• Report Orchestrator — Build, schedule, and share reports

4. Leverage AI

Every workspace tool includes an AI assistant panel. Ask it to write queries, find backup datasets, or build reports using natural language.

System Requirements

• Modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari)
• Network access to target data sources
• Valid Vortex account with appropriate permissions
